Window Garden
Firstly, What is a Window Garden
Many people today are choosing to grow their own food. There are numerous good reasons why you should do it as well. Truth is that today food is cultivated by using some methods that can significantly reduce the nutritional value of the foods. Not just that, but some techniques for cultivating can even make the food dangerous for your health. Some plants are sprayed with different harmful chemicals like herbicides or pesticides. Food also has to travel very long distances until it reaches its final destination in the supermarket. All of that can make the food less nutritious. Our planet also suffers because fuel and energy used for transporting and storing the food. Therefore, people started looking for effective solutions for cultivating food in the place of their residence. One such solution is the so-called window farm.
A window farm is a hydroponic type of farming, created vertically and designed to function year-round. You can grow foods indoors on your windows. It requires some intervention from you as a farmer, and this farming system enables you to easily grow your plants or vegetables hydroponically even if you live in a very limited space and during all seasons. The main goal behind window farming is to encourage urban people to grow their food inside their homes throughout the entire year. That way people can significantly improve their quality of life and live healthier.
Design:
Our window farm design has been created from many other designs over the internet. We have decided and drawn or created this design as we feel this will be the best for our needs.

Our design includes a completely automatic Window farm system, beginning with a drip system filtering through 3 separate pot plants all situated inside 3 separate 5-liter bottles. The water residue will collect inside a small container and flow down to a long magnifying glass tube and using the heat from the sun since it is situated next to a window, the water will evaporate up the tube and condense on its roof and it will drip back into the drip system container.
(Dimensions coming shortly)
Over the holiday, we have to leave our window garden without watering the plants. So, what modifications do we need to do to make it work?
What changes will happen while we are away in the holidays?
I would predict that the water should only run out on the 2nd or 3rd day as it slowly drips. The plants (basil and lettuce) should have grown nicely, but over time should have become less healthy as they won't have as much water.
